Metric
Mention Rate
Short answer
Mention rate is the most fundamental AI visibility metric. It counts how frequently the engine names your brand when answering relevant buyer questions. Unlike citation rate, it doesn't require a link to your domain, only that the model recognizes and surfaces your brand in its response.
Mention rate is typically the heaviest-weighted component of an overall visibility score, because being named is the baseline of showing up. A low mention rate means the model either doesn't know you well enough or doesn't consider you relevant to the category, which usually calls for stronger entity signals and more authoritative third-party presence.
DeepLexa detects mentions per answer and uses mention rate as the largest factor in its visibility score, then recommends publishing definitive resources when it's low.
